By using RigTonight you agree to these terms. They're short, and the main point is the first section.
Check before you buy
RigTonight's compatibility checks, back focus figures, payload limits, power estimates and target rankings are guidance, not guarantees.
- Gear specs: parts marked ✓ Verified were read from the manufacturer's published pages, with the manufacturer's permission or under their site's own rules. Generic parts, such as filter types, filter wheels, power sources and capture computers, use typical figures and are approximate. Parts marked Custom were typed in by whoever made the rig, and we don't check them. Specs can change; manufacturers' pages win.
- Image estimates: "What your image could look like" is an illustration based on a survey image and typical conditions, not a prediction of what your rig will capture.
- Before you spend money: always confirm the specs with the manufacturer or retailer before buying, drilling, or ordering spacers.
- Forecasts: these come from weather models and can be wrong, especially for cloud.
- Your rig: don't leave equipment unattended outdoors on the strength of a forecast.
If you spot a wrong spec, please tell us. Corrections are fixed quickly.
No warranty
The site is provided free, "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for losses from using it, such as equipment bought on the basis of a check, or a night lost to cloud. Nothing here limits rights you have by law that can't be limited.
Fair use
Please don't overload the site, scrape it in bulk, or use it to break the law. Links you share, including short links, contain only your rig, and anyone with the link can see it.
Content and credits
The guides and the site's design are © RigTonight. You're welcome to link to them and to share rigs. The data comes from other sources under their own licences:
- Gear specs: the manufacturers' own websites: Celestron, Askar/Sharpstar, William Optics and iOptron (with their permission), and Player One, QHY and Optolong. Each part links to its source page.
- Weather: Open-Meteo (CC BY 4.0).
- Deep-sky catalog: OpenNGC (CC BY-SA 4.0).
- Place search: Photon, with map data © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL).
- Sky images: DSS2 via Aladin Lite (CDS, Strasbourg), served by CDS or by ESA's ESASky mirror.
- Sky positions: astronomy-engine.
- Target pictures: Wikimedia Commons, each under its own free licence. The author and licence of every image are on the Credits page.
Seeing and transparency are estimates worked out from wind and air-quality forecasts, not measurements.
Product names and trademarks belong to their manufacturers. RigTonight isn't affiliated with them.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and disputes go to the courts there. If you use RigTonight as a consumer, you keep any protection, and any right to bring a claim where you live, that the law of your own country gives you.
